ABOUT JANET GROZA

Janet Natividad Groza, CWA

From Redmond, WA

Janet always had a love for the arts but studied Psychology instead, hoping to get better career opportunities. Her first and only formal art class was an elective in high school and she fell in love, but the timing was not right. Her family couldn't afford Art School.

When she moved from Manila, Philippines to Sacramento, California at age 18 with her parents, education took a back seat. She had to work to help support her family set roots in their new country. It wasn't until she was 40 years old and her four daughters were old enough to be in school full time, that she went back to school to pursue her dream of getting an education. This time she wasn't sure which degree to take, so she tried a drawing class again

and her first painting class. She discovered that she has a gift bigger than she could have imagined. In Art School, she enjoyed studying all mediums including: pen and ink, charcoal, oil, acrylic, animation, digital painting, pastel, colored pencil, and watercolor. With much challenge on balancing her studies and duties of being a wife and mother, she graduated Cum Laude at San Jose State University with a BA in Fine Arts in Spring 2011.

Watercolor is now Janet's primary medium. She finds it challenging, exciting, most satisfying, and full of surprises. She has taken classes from well respected and accomplished watercolorists like Mary Whyte, Lian Quan Zhen, Birgit O'Connor, Nicholas Simmons, Joseph Zbukvic, Thomas Schaller, Gale Antokal, Kathleen Alexander, and John Salminen. Her work can be categorized as Realism and has won many awards from juried shows. She has been featured as one of the 10 Artists to Watch in the December 2013 issue of Watercolor Artists Magazine.

Janet currently resides in Redmond, Washington with her husband.
